What is Voluma?
Voluma XC injectable gel is an injectable treatment belonging to the Juvéderm collection of fillers. This hyaluronic acid formula can effectively add volume to the cheeks and midface through a deep injection. Aside from cheek augmentation, some patients also opt for Voluma for chin augmentation or lip augmentation. Hyaluronic acid is an important substance in the skin that retains moisture, and Voluma uses a specific formulation that is thicker and more durable than other Juvéderm injectables, meaning it can last longer and provide more lift and contour to flat or sagging cheeks. Skin injection procedures such as Juvéderm are the easiest ways to address severe facial wrinkles without surgery, making it an ideal choice for patients looking to treat age related volume loss.
Your Customized Voluma Consultation
The best way to determine how Voluma can benefit you is through a consultation with our team. There are many facial injection options available, and knowing your aesthetic goals and what you would like your results to look like can help our team professionally recommend the right injectable gel treatment for you, which can also include skin or laser treatments. We can also ensure you understand what to expect during the treatment session and afterward, as well as answer any questions you may have.
Our expert injectors will review your health history for previous allergic reactions or multiple severe allergies, which could mean that Juvéderm and other facial injection procedures are not an optimal treatment for you. If you have skin sores, a history of excessive scarring, or certain muscle or nerve conditions, you may not be a good candidate for hyaluronic acid fillers.

Meet The Team The Treatment Process
Our team begins injectable treatments with a topical anesthetic for your comfort during the injection process. Voluma also includes another anesthetic, lidocaine, to ensure against discomfort as the product is placed under the skin. Our team then uses a very fine needle to place the gel deep under the skin of the cheeks to create lift and volume according to your face’s unique profile. This careful, artistic process can require multiple, small injections to create the intended shape and results. Our team can ensure you know how much product will be required during your consultation.
Recovery and Results
As with any dermal filler injection, you can expect some bruising or swelling at the injection site after your treatment session, which usually subsides within the day. Voluma requires no downtime, and you can return to your regular schedule immediately. Our team will give you a list of side effects to watch for, including severe headache, unusual pain, severe allergic reaction, skin injury, vision abnormalities, and more. In most cases, Juvéderm is very safe and effective when administered by an experienced injector.
Voluma lasts the longest of any Juvéderm injectables at up to two years, after which you can repeat the treatment or look at your other options for mid-face rejuvenation.
Juvederm FAQs
Can I wear makeup after Juvederm?
We recommend that you wait at least 24 hours before applying makeup after Juvederm injections. This helps reduce the risk of irritation or infection at the injection sites.
Can you wash your face after Juvederm?
You can gently wash your face after Juvederm, but it’s best to wait a few hours post-treatment. Use lukewarm water and mild cleanser, avoiding pressure or rubbing on the injection sites. Pat dry instead of wiping.
Does juvederm expand?
When injected, Juvederm initially draws in water molecules and swells slightly, enhancing the plumped appearance in the treated area. This hydrophilic nature means that Juvederm can "expand" to some extent as it attracts moisture. However, this expansion is predictable and controlled, achieving natural-looking results that typically last several months to a year.
How painful are Juvederm injections?
Generally, patients have reported feeling a mild to moderate level of pain, which is often described as a slight pinch or a stinging sensation at the injection site. However, many Juvederm products are formulated with lidocaine, an anesthetic that helps to reduce pain during the procedure, making the experience more tolerable.
Does juvederm soften up?
Juvederm typically feels firmer right after treatment and softens over 1–2 weeks as it integrates with your tissue. This is a normal part of the settling process.
How can I make Juvederm last longer?
Maintaining a healthy lifestyle, avoiding excessive sun exposure, and using quality skincare can help extend results. Follow all aftercare instructions from your injector. Regular maintenance appointments also help preserve your look.
Can juvederm migrate?
Juvederm can shift slightly from the injection site, but significant migration is uncommon. Proper injection technique helps minimize this risk. Swelling and movement in the days after treatment may cause temporary changes in appearance.
Can you drink alcohol after Juvederm?
It’s best to avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours after Juvederm injections. Alcohol can increase bruising and swelling by dilating blood vessels. Waiting ensures better healing and optimal results.
How do you get rid of Juvederm bumps?
Small bumps often resolve on their own within a week or two. Gentle massage may help if recommended by your provider. Persistent or firm bumps may require hyaluronidase to dissolve the filler.
How long after Juvederm will I see results?
You’ll notice results immediately after treatment, though some swelling and redness are normal. Most patients see their final outcome after about 1–2 weeks once the filler settles.
Is Juvederm better than Botox?
Choosing between Juvederm and Botox depends on individual goals and the specific areas of concern you wish to address. Some people even opt for a combination of both treatments to achieve a more comprehensive rejuvenation. Ultimately, the decision should be guided by your cosmetic objectives, taking into account the specific attributes of each product.
Is Juvederm safe to use?
Juvederm is widely regarded as a safe and effective dermal filler option for adding volume and reducing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. As a hyaluronic acid-based injectable, Juvederm is biocompatible, which means it closely mimics the natural substances found in the skin, reducing the risk of adverse reactions.
Can juvederm be reversed?
Juvederm can be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase if needed. This process breaks down the hyaluronic acid filler quickly. Reversal is usually done for overcorrection, asymmetry, or rare complications.
Does juvederm dissolve over time?
Juvederm naturally breaks down in the body over several months. The exact duration depends on the product used, treatment area, and your metabolism. Touch-up treatments are needed to maintain results.
How often can juvederm be injected?
The frequency with which Juvederm can be injected depends on various factors, including the specific type used, the area being treated, and an individual's unique skin properties. On average, many people opt to have touch-up injections every 6 to 12 months to maintain their desired look.
